End of 2014 Season Message from John Walkman

Springfield Rugby Football Club
Players, Alumni, Supporters, Family and Friends

A perfect time to say thank you to all of you, even though so many individual praises are seriously past due, and especially to all the players in the club. There are so many individual names I could mention in this message to the club. I am writing to inform you all that I am off on my final travels leaving 25th November, returning 4th April 2015.  For those of you who do not know, I am a Marketing Manager for Celebrity Cruise Lines and I am heading back to the Cruise Ships working in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. An opportunity I could not possibly turn down as I am sure you all understand!

I was appointed head coach earlier in the year by the Board of Directors of the Club. What an honor, I never thought I would be offered to take this role on with not having been with the club for very long. I will be honest in saying that I did not foresee, at that time, the Club having the direction to advance to another level. With the increasing numbers at every training session this was an asset to build a foundation with young, new players together with the established players. This made my job more challenging in making selections for the up-coming games due to the talent we saw each week at training. Secondly to witness the players take on new drills, releasing those drills into a skill and then play rugby with passion, desire, heart, showing full on commitment in some great performances on and off the field.  This has moved the game into a new level at Springfield Rugby Football Club. I am sure many of you agree, hands down a very strong, connected team now and for sure the fittest team out there after some severe intense fitness sessions where you all never gave up. This shows true passion in you all, an eagerness to learn, to get fit, to pick up new skills from experienced players and of course, coaches.

I would like to mention and honestly give a huge thank you and am sure the players will support me on this to you, Lachlan Fordyce who has been a huge support in coaching.  The work Lachlan has dedicated, especially to the forwards and also assisting in the decision making, has been very much appreciated.  You gave it your all with the busy commitments you have on the farm. The communication we shared solved past discrepancies creating the foundations of what we want in moving Springfield Rugby Club forward. I would also like to thank and mention Sam Tahhan and Chris Jackson for putting in some hard work, taking players to one side for individual assistance during games and when numbers have been extremely high at practice.

MarkO Owings continued his efforts with Field Management, traveling on away games giving his advise and support to all of us. I thank you for all the hard work you have done, much appreciated and my thoughts and prayers certainly go out to you and your wife.

Bryan Bevel, again free beer and food,  gentlemen all provided by the Brew Co, thank you to you and your entire team.

Like I mentioned, I could write more to say thank you to all those who do so much for the club, however I feel as a coach to you I would like you to reach out and do this, we have become who we are, the future of Springfield Rugby Club, I truly hope that you all attend the huge gathering on Founders Day 10th January to show your appreciation.

The fall season we played seven games, winning four with some impressive team and individual plays.  However, we lost the friendly first game to the big Islanders then lost two games that are questionable in many ways that I cannot wait to face them in the new year knowing you will show who is the better team. (Cheats never prosper)!  2015 you can win against these two teams and have the possibility giving a good chase to take the league. (You know the two teams I am talking about, it annoys me in polite words for sure gentlemen and I could go on with the frustrations against cheats).  Negative crap over!!! The past is past; you the team showed true professionalism, returning to training and walking out on the field once again showing and playing for one another winning some hard fought games. There are not enough words to say how proud I am of you all.  You took the punishment in trainings completing the hard levels of fitness, you took on new drills, you developed plays that normally takes longer to put together. You all came together as a team giving those who come to support you week in week out a performance to be proud of. Thank You.

I wish you all wonderful wishes of happiness during the festive season from Thanksgiving through Christmas with your families and friends. All the best!
