PAY PLAYER DUES
WHAT DO DUES PAY FOR?
Dues pay for the costs that allow us to play rugby throughout the year. No person in the club receives any compensation for their work. Every rugby Saturday at our field costs our club ~$1000 to host, with a range of associated costs like:
1. Our fields must be mowed, fertilized, painted, and maintained year-round. This involves paying for supplies (gas, paint, fertilizer) and the equipment (lining machine, mowers, trimmers)
2. Our club must pay
-
Referees a fee to officiate each match + mileage for traveling to the match
-
Trainers/EMT staff to stand ready to provide initial attention to players during the match
-
Sanctioning fees with USA rugby to maintain good standing and host events.
3. Our club pays thousands of dollars annually in taxes and utility costs for our property.
4. Our club pays thousands of dollars annually in insurance to protect our assets and members
If you cannot afford to fully pay your dues, please talk to the team manager or captain. Money should not stand in the way of playing rugby, but you should realize that you must give something to our club to receive the benefit of membership--on and off the field.
PLAYER SELECTION POLICY
The by-laws and club traditions outline how sides are selected. Although situations can differ and dictate a different process for selections, some general policies exist:
1. For merit table matches, played against other members of our Geographical Union, only 23 players may be named. Because of laws related to play-off eligibility, some players may be selected for a merit table match to enact their play-off eligibility later in the year.
2. During friendly (or exhibition) matches, there is no limit on the number of players selected. Generally, any tournament (7s, 10s) will use this policy.
3. The coach, the team captain, and the team manager are responsible for selecting the team to play.
4. Only eligible players (registered with USA rugby & current on Club dues) may be selected.
5. To the extent possible, a side will be selected and named on the Thursday immediately preceding a match and announced using social media or team communication channels. Some exceptions will exist, as availabilities often differ.
6. Selectors weigh many factors when choosing a side, including:
-
Available players at each position, and the flexibility of players to fulfill multiple roles as reserves.
-
The best available player, at each position, and the best combination of players on a given day.
-
Players' attendance, experience, readiness, and fitness.
